It is critical for people with chronic pain to improve their fortitude rating scales. Some examples of ways to improve these scales are the following:
1.Coping skills- Reflect on healthy ways you’ve dealt with frustrations and disappointments in the past. Learn from your experience.
A. Self-care-Identify two lists; one that lists the things you should do; the other lists the things you love to do, enjoy, have passion for.
Act just as much on the latter list as the former one. Taking care of yourself does not mean you’re selfish.
B.Self-efficacy- Take action on those activities that give you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
3. Assertiveness- Know your rights as a person.
Recognize where your rights are being violated. Speak up and gain self-respect.
4. Problem Solve- Identify the problem, plans weighing the pros and cons of each one, choose the best one, evaluate how you did
5. Humor- Turn off the news! Watch comedies, read jokes and funny stories, satire, enjoy listening to old time comedy talk shows, laugh at the absurdities of life.
