Letting Go:

You have a choice!
You can continue to deal with pain in unhealthy ways, or you can choose to acknowledge that there are better ways to reduce your chronic pain.
Once you acknowledge that the advantages of changing the ways to deal with your chronic pain far outweigh the disadvantages, then you will enter a mourning phase that is characteristic of any time you decide to change any course of action.
To move on, you must ‘let go’ of the way you used to be before having chronic pain. Grieving this loss will allow you to enter a “transitional” phase followed by “new beginnings” as described in the book, “Transitions” by William Bridges.
“New beginnings” is highlighted by your perceiving pain as a challange; as an opportunity to reduce your chronic pain by choosing from an array of adaptive strategies to improve your fortitude.
